false, realistically the department of public safety would be responsible for setting the rules and regulations that scso must follow while communicating with the sheriff. irl county government officials mostly handle the budget of those departments. county government can’t run a sheriffs department as a sheriffs department is ran by the sheriff who was elected by the people.

According to sheriff.org: The Office of Sheriff is not simply another " department " of county government . … The Office of Sheriff is a statutory/constitutional office having exclusive powers and authority under state law and/or state constitution. These inherent powers are not subject to the dictates of a local county governing body.

EDIT: I just realized I replied to the wrong comment, this is in regards to you saying SCSO is ran by Stapleton Government.
