A Referendum to Remodel Elections

BE IT ENACTED BY THE STATE OF FIRESTONE CONGRESS HERE ASSEMBLED THAT:

PREAMBLE:

To ask for the opinion of the people of Firestone, whose voice must take the priority for all matters. As to whether or not the State of Firestone shall remodel our elections to a new voting system.

SECTION I: This referendum may be cited as the “RRE” for short.

SECTION II: A A referendum shall be held to decide whether or not the First Past the Post (FPTP) voting system shall be replaced with the Single Transferable Vote (STV) voting system and the Instant-runoff voting (IRV) system.

SECTION III A: The referendum must be conducted within twenty (20) days of this
legislation being in effect.

Section III B: The referendum shall contain only one (1) question, as stated in Section 4D.

SECTION III C: The results of the referendum shall be considered legally binding, whereas if
the referendum is in favor of switching the voting system to Single Transferable Vote (STV) for multi-seat and Instant-runoff voting (IRV) for single-seat elections. However, if the contrary is true, then the voting system of “First Past the Post” (FPTP) shall remain. If there is a tie, then the referendum shall be reheld. This legally binding
referendum may be reinforced by other pieces of appropriate legislation

SECTION III D: The sole question for the referendum shall be as follows:
“Should the State of Firestone switch from the First Past the Post System voting system to the Single Transferable Vote (STV) for multi-seat elections and Instant-runoff voting for single-seat elections?"
a. Yes
b. No"

SECTION IV:​ The Governor of the State of Firestone shall be responsible for organizing and
conducting this referendum, whereas the Senate and the House of Representatives are
obligated to enforce its result through appropriate legislation as described in Section 3C.

SECTION V: All laws in conflict with this legislation shall be deemed null and void.

SECTION VI: This legislation shall go into effect immediately upon passage.
