Small rant about congress (recalls)

context: amendment would allow congressional recalls to be triggered with 50 signatures, 3 state gov official signatures, and a follow-up poll in which 70% had to be in favour of the removal.

senate passed this amendment without issue

the house today has made an amendment in which 80 signatures are needed within two weeks, a ridiculous number which:

  1. does not consider how political interest is dying in this state
  2. does not consider how hard getting the initial 75 signatures was on a petition for this idea
  3. overestimates the willingness of the community to participate in such things anymore

if the amendment was good enough for the senate (who are actually seasoned lawmakers), why does the house have a problem with it

on the floor, we had a discussion about this, and we decided that 50 was low enough to be abused. We entirely expect it to be abused regardless, but 80 would at least make it a difficult case to argue. if 80 people can support a governor’s candidacy, why can’t a recall follow the same rough number?

tie the number to a percent of gov votes

I say we do a youngling style massacre of all the Reps in this state to cleanse us of their sin whilst we embark on a new empirical rule.

this is because the current house is full of morons who think they know better than everyone else… If a representative really thinks a petition is going to get 50 signatures and then another 70% in the actual recall poll, i have serious reservations
