I believe that the State of Firestone could deeply benefit from implementing roundabouts as a replacement to traffic lights.
Pros:
Reduction of lag due to scripts not being needed
Allows for traffic to flow easily
You no longer have to wait at a stoplight where literally no one else is at the light except for you but you still wait cause you’re a good citizen
Cons:
Usually takes up more space than a normal traffic light
Less control / harder to navigate around if there is an incident on the roundabout
Harder for oversized vehicles to use
With both the pros & cons, I still believe that the pros of having a roundabout outweigh the cons. Obviously this is for V3 but it would be interesting to test this at just one intersection in V2 to see if we should implement this in V3 as a standard.
would add something different but…
i dont trust people IRL at traffic circles not to crash into me, so I would NEVER trust a firestone driver not to crash into me
A roundabout has already been confirmed for v3 by Fed. I’ve proposed to him that the all-way stop intersection FS95/FS98 between Prominence and Arborfield becomes a roundabout. The all-round clearance is perfect, the approaches are ideal, and there is no other real feasible alternative for the intersection (there can’t be an overpass/underpass, traffic lights would unnecessarily hinder traffic flow, and an all-way stop on two 70 SPS roadways is not ideal and largely in contravention with Section 2B.07 of the MUTCD).
That’s why a roundabout is ideal for this location.
I’d also like to note that these chevron signs are only used in roundabouts and not to indicate that the road only proceeds to the left, although they are found here at the Prominence underground train station.
For as good as it is, anyone from educated countries (i.e. Not the United States) would easily be able to navigate a roundabout. Problem comes from American players not being able to comprehend the rules that surround roundabouts.
Another slight problem, for those of us from Australia/UK/Japan/Right Hand Drive countries, we of course approach roundabouts where we turn clockwise, rather than counterclockwise. Now for as small as this is, it throws off the entire way we consider when it is safe to enter, and what lane to take, which is a big impact overall.
Those who obey traffic laws in v2/v3 are competent enough to comprehend roundabouts. Those who do not will not care either way, so it doesn’t matter.
As for right-hand drive countries, that’s pretty much the same as saying it’s hard for you to drive on the right-hand side whenever you play v2. The v3 roundabout would obviously not be some kind of 3-lane monstrosity, so it doesn’t matter whether it’s clockwise or counterclockwise, it’s practically the same difficulty.
I live in America and there are roundabouts in my town. Now I am not saying replace every intersection with one. I am just saying we should replace a few intersections with roundabouts. Those who won’t follow the rules of a roundabout won’t follow the rules for traffic lights.
Once again flawed logic, those who intend to somewhat follow traffic laws know how to drive in a roundabout - it’s not rocket science. Those who don’t - criminals and noobs - won’t obey any traffic laws anyways, so it doesn’t matter.
I love you clonemeth, but horrible idea. Roundabouts are good and all (ie increase traffic flow), but they are horrible. I’m not sure hos the health system fully works in V3, but by how people drive in FS. Its gonna equal a lot more injuries due to people not coming to a full stop and looking.
Safer (‘less injuries’) than a conventional intersection, not sure what a unique type of junction (a roundabout) has to do with ‘safety’. As I’ve said numerous times there are ONLY the two extremes of drivers: those who abide by all traffic laws due to government officer/department occupation or aspirations and those who are criminals or citizens and don’t obey traffic laws at all, that’s it. Those who don’t follow traffic laws don’t matter anyways.
To be honest, roundabouts will probably increase safety in FS. The crazy drivers who don’t care about the traffic laws run the reds in normal intersections, which obviously could easily cause a crash. For roundabouts they still have to turn even if they don’t yield (with the right roundabout design obviously). Honestly, I think roundabouts, like real life, will increase intersection safety within Firestone. The whole point of roundabouts is to decrease the amount of places where collisions can occur and that’s not any different in Firestone. Not stopping for a red light and running through the intersection is a lot more dangerous than running a yield sign at a roundabout.
While in real life it is exponentially safer, and yes in Firestone it would also be somewhat safer, unlawfully operating drivers would probably just drive on the grass around the roundabout or go the wrong way around it. Regardless thereof, those who do follow traffic laws in the first place would be much safer off than in regular intersections.
