Ok here’s an actual idea for insurance I’ve had for a bit. Do note that this is for V3 and facilities required for this don’t exist in V2. This idea only goes over car insurance, as idk how life/ health etc. will work. I’m sorry if this is a long read
The way it’ll work is that individuals first start insurance companies through Commerce following whatever regulations they set, and people will join/get (idk what the right word would be) the insurance that the companies offer. I’d imagine that in V3 cars can be permanently destroyed, so insured clients, in exchange for differing coverage plans, will have to pay a weekly premium depending on the plan and number of cars insured (payments will work like house payments). For example, a company can charge $200 a week to provide partial coverage for 1 car as one plan or $350 for full coverage on 1 car and items inside as another plan. People would make claims for destroyed cars – and with proof, stuff in the vehicle’s inventory – so that they can get reimbursed. They could also make claims to another person’s insurance if they’re at fault.
Citizens will be legally required to get insurance before driving, and everyone will get a generous 60-day grace period to get insurance once this is added, and noobs will also be given the 60 days once they become citizens. I’d imagine LEOs will have a part of the in-car computer search dedicated to searching cars, so there could be a section regarding insurance. It’ll say the company, agent, and the status – “Insured”, “XX days remaining” if they’re still on the grace period, “Not a Citizen”, or “Not Insured.”
Keeping track of insurance must be done and could prove difficult, but I do have an idea. A trello board connected to the in-car computers – similar to how the CFL trello is – could keep track of each person’s insurance. Each company would have a list, and each client would have a card titled in the format of user:ID like the CFL trello. In the description of the card, it’ll have the necessary information so it could be read and put into the aforementioned insurance section of the car search. Some might think that this would require too many cards due to the massive size of the group – like what happened with POST certs having to be moved to a Google sheet after 1.5k – but according to the last census only around 500 people replied. With the possibilities of both active drivers not doing the census and non-drivers completing the census, I estimate these two factors cancel each other out leaving the number at around 500.
I’m not quite sure where the money would come from. Money could just be generated for the claims, or the weekly payments could go toward an actual pool of money for claims, similar to irl. I prefer the latter, but there may not be enough money in that pool. This is a good topic for debate in the replies.
That’s all I have for now. Leave questions and thoughts in the replies
