Fleeing car paintball idea

So. I recently found this image that I thought was extremely smart by Japanese cops. If a suspect evades, they would shoot paintballs at the car which would help identify the evader to the cops. I reckon with a bit of work that this could be implemented in V2 or V3 because it could have criminal and cop advantages.

Perhaps the paint would stay on the car until the evader is arrested, if they aren’t arrested - it will stay on for 15 minutes before automatically disappearing. Criminals could possibly buy a paintball gun from a dealer or something and be able to paint other cars to cause a bit of confusion - a bit of an advantage for criminals however the criminal paintball could possibly last for 5-10 minutes.

Cop advantages: Easier to identify evading vehicle and voids confusion regarding similar cars (Evaders stands out).

Criminal advantages: Cause confusion by painting other cars.

Cop disadvantages: Confused if multiple suspects cars are painted by criminals.

Criminal disadvantages: Easily could be spotted by LEOs and would stand out amongst of similar vehicles.

Of course this idea can be tweaked. Let me know what you think down below :heartbeat:

Can you at least say why

vFl_at, you watch too much anime…

This is a pretty dumb idea, high quality paintballs and paintball guns are expensive and our departments would not be able to provide a large amount for the forces to have. There is also the danger of accidental damage to other citizens or property due to poor aim. Also how would they even be able to fire the paintballs accurately and safely during hot pursuit from their vehicle? We dont have a system in place where you can really fire from your car easily.

Also if criminals dont want their car to be paintballed, they could easily just paint their car the color of the paintballs our forces use. Its also probably some weird trend anyways!

In conclusion, this idea is communist; and only exists because vFl_at is a weeb.

Is everything communist?

This would require more coding but it would be cool if you could put a tracker on a car then pull it up in your GPS.

Ngl, as a SRT owner I get pulled over many times because a car similar like mine has a BOLO so I would like this idea support

would work only if developers put time and effort into it. number of factors including:

  • velocity of fleeing vehicle
  • velocity of pursuing vehicle
  • lag of suspect
  • lag of officer
  • physics & collision detection (obviously not the best)
  • application of paint part & imprint of paint decal on suspect vehicle (can’t just spawn a part and weld it without causing physical lag, and/ or waiting for the asset to load, which would be an unlikely problem)
^ can simply just be recoloring a part a la the old paintball gun. yay, 2008!

sounds easy on here, sounds hard in execution. i had a hard time implementing a PIT maneuver system for one of my own custom cars, and even that had problems with filteringenabled when inserted into games.

Fair enough

I have no idea how to develop so I wasn’t aware of what had to go into it

Yeah, that could be a pretty good idea

I think maybe a more ‘American’ version of this should be implemented and I think that would be the StarChase technology, although it would probably be harder to develop,
(If you wanna know what StarChase is just look at their website: https://www.starchase.com)
