Employee Handbook


The Firestone Department of Public Works Employee Handbook is an official document of the Firestone Department of Public Works, created by Secretary Ftlicious and maintained by the department administration. This document is intended to educate employees on department policies and procedures as well as any information that is important to the workplace. All information on this document is subject to change. All employees have the right to be informed of those changes along with answers to any questions in regards to the document.

Section 1.1 - Mission Statement

The Firestone Department of Public Works is responsible for all sanitation operations within the State of Firestone. It is led by a Secretary, who is nominated by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate, who oversees the department’s operations and standards. The department utilizes its fleet to clean and beautify the streets of Stapleton County.


Section 2.1 - Recruitment

Citizens aspiring to apply to the Department of Public Works must first complete the application found here. Upon applying, applicants are asked to join our Discord server using the invite found on the application. Applicants who have passed the application stage are usually informed within 2 weeks of applying. Once accepted, the applicant, now trainee, will under the Public Works Training Program (PWTP), consisting of 2 intense classes.

Class 1—Consists of an Introductory to the Department of Public Works, expectations, and common courtesy.
Class 2—Consists of the Public Works Vehicle Operations Course (PWVOC) and Sweeping Certification.

Upon completing the said classes, trainees will take a final examination to test their knowledge on the field of public works.


Section 3.1 - Rank Structure

Secretary—Reports to Governor, oversees department operations.

Deputy Secretary—Reports to Secretary, oversees administrative operations.

Associate Secretary—Reports to Deputy Secretary, oversees human resources

Board of Directors—Reports to Associate Secretary, leads a bureau.


Division Coordinator—Reports to the Board of Directors, oversees a division or company.

Division Supervisor—Reports to Division Coordinators, supervises a unit.

Crew Leader—Reports to Supervisor for logs. Senior employee of the department. May be asked to help lead one’s unit.

Sanitation Worker—Reports to Supervisor for logs. Regular employee of the department. Reports to Supervisor for logs.

Trainee—A non-employee who will undergo training within the department.


Section 4.1 - Code of Conduct

The Department of Public Works was founded on 3 values. These values are:

Excellency—The value of exceeding one’s duties.
Integrity—The value of being honest and moral.
Teamwork—The value of working together to achieve a common goal.


Section 5.1 - Zero-Tolerance Policy

To ensure that all FDPW employees are safe while on-duty and off, a zero-tolerance policy has been introduced. This policy is in effect as of 7/13/2018, 9:48 pm EDT.

  1. All FDPW employees are strictly prohibited from having a felony record.
  2. All FDPW employees shall notify the department legal team if they have a pending court case. The department administration shall evaluate the situation in accordance with the legal team.
  3. All FDPW employees are to follow all traffic laws while operating machinery on-duty.
  4. All applicants interested in joining the department are required to have a clean record, with no more than 3 citations.
  5. Immaturity shall be strictly prohibited while representing the department. This includes wearing any uniform recognized by the department or while in any Firestone-related Discord server.
  6. Disrespect shall not be tolerated to any employee or department affiliate.
  7. Harassment, bullying, or targetting shall be strictly prohibited.

ANY VIOLATION OF THE SAID GUIDELINES WILL RESULT IN A TERMINATION.


Section 5.2 - Activity Policy

To ensure that all employees are meeting our standards, a new activity policy has been introduced. Here are the official guidelines for the activity policy:

  • All Public Employees including Senior Public Employees must go on shift for a total of 1 hour per week.

  • Should a Public Employee not go on shift for 5 days, they will be marked semi-inactive.

  • Should a Public Employee not go on shift for 1 week, they will be marked inactive and receive an activity strike.

  • All Public Employees will receive 2 strikes before being eligible for termination.

Division Coordinator+ will not be required to submit shift logs but will be mandated to submit division evaluations to ensure that their respective division is well-equipped and functional.

Section 5.5 - Dress Code Policy

The following uniforms are recognized and used by the Firestone Department of Public Works:

Long Sleeve Disposal Top—Standard issued top, may be worn by Maintenance Worker+.

Short Sleeve Disposal—Standard issued top, may be worn by Maintenance Worker+.

Disposal Pants—Standard issued bottoms, may be worn by Maintenance Trainee+.

All employees are authorized to wear realistic eyewear and covers while wearing department uniform. Employees may also wear a cap or fedora.

The following items are strictly prohibited froHardhats

  • Hard hats.
  • Unrealistic hair.
  • Non-approved t-shirts, shirts, or pants.
  • Accessories.
  • Packages.

Section 6.1 - Department Structure

The Department of Public Works is divided into 2 bureaus along with 1 division.

Cleaning and Collection Bureau—Responsible for accident cleanups, street cleaning, and sidewalk cleanups. Includes 2 companies with 2 units each.
Waste Management Bureau—Responsible for dumpster pickups and trash pickups. Includes 2 units.
Safety and Training Division—Responsible for the training of trainees and employees.
