please let us utilize a vehicle during high risk stops to block the suspect. i get why post doesnt allow it, mainly because of crossfire. but my thinking is most officers who are competent can easily box a suspect from the front and then return to the back to avoid the crossfire. i have performed 10 c7’s as a cop and not once did it result in a successful arrest without the suspect fleeing
Crossfire is a HUGE reason, and though it’s gonna make sense in a game to do it, we still do try to roleplay irl tactics.
just learn what you need to learn to pass POST, and then learn what actually works in county. i’d say 50% of the stuff in POST is purely based off roleplay and won’t benefit you in performing your duties in county
if the vehicle is pitted then no need to do it
if the vehicle needs boxed in then just use your common sense at the time.
common sense shouldnt have to be taught.
speaking from an IRL tactics perspective, it really depends on the situation. If we have no reason to believe the subject is armed or inclined to shoot back its a plausible situation (think nonviolent felonies, etc.) However if its a violent forcible felony youd be hard pressed to find that as an option. What we rely more on is the use of stopsticks/spikes to disable the vehicle to prevent it from fleeing once we have it stopped.
