The Firestone Senate is currently voting to REMOVE the ability for people to support elections via Discord and REQUIRE that you can ONLY support on the Firestone Forum post.
Do you support this decision?
Pro: Ensures election integrity and removes the chance of faking Discord supports
Con: Removes the convince people are accustomed to
First off, I wanna say I appreciate you guys for actually caring enough to make a post about it Unfortunately, so far nobody has made a valid or convincing argument as to why we should keep Discord supports in the first place. All we’ve been told is that “I rely on them” and “it’s easier to do that” which isn’t a good enough reason for us.
In our point of view, removing Discord supports will force people to,
a) Actually go to the candidates campaign speech instead of just seeing the link in DM’s and messaging back “support”. This would increase the likelihood of the individual actually reading the candidates speech.
b) Create a forum account if they don’t already have one. Like someone else said on a different post, creating a forum account is idiot proof. It takes minutes to do and there are zero downsides to it. Think about it, if we make it so people have to make an account in order to support a candidate, now that person can also participate in the election for real!
It’s a win-win for everybody. Yes, there is still the possibility that people will support a meme candidate just because they think their speech is funny, but at least they will be forced to go to the speech itself and look at it with their own eyes before giving their support.
Again, if someone can make a valid and convincing argument as to why we should keep Discord supports then I’m all ears. Until then, we’re going to continue forward with this bill.
