FMA Poll

With FMA hiring a new director, we are interested in starting more courses for the public to take out of FMA to improve medicine in Firestone. We are running this poll to try and get some understanding of what people are interested in taking at FMA.

Some of the ideas for courses:

Main courses

  • Critical Care Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic - Currently being run as a course. This course teaches EMT-P providers the critical care aspect of medicine and how to take care of the sickest of patients in Stapleton County in the prehospital setting.
  • Registered Nursing - Currently being run as a course. This course will teach providers how to work in the hospital as an emergency department/inpatient medicine nurse. This is the required certification to work in the hospital.
  • Nurse Practitioner - A future course to be run. This course will teach providers how to work at an advanced level including making diagnosis, doing advanced procedures, and prescribing medications. The options for this course are: Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Anesthesiology.
  • Medical Doctor - A future course to be run. This course will teach providers how to work at an advanced level including making diagnosis, doing advanced procedures, and prescribing medications.

Sub courses

  • Critical Care Registered Nurse - This course will teach RNs how to work in the intensive care unit on very sick patients.
  • Surgery Registered Nurse - This course will teach RNs how to work in the operating room with surgeons and surgical patients.
  • Environmental Emergencies - This course will teach EMTs how to identify and treat emergencies induced by the environment
  • EMS Incident Command - This course will teach EMTs how to run incidents from the EMS point of view.
  • Toxicology - This course will teach EMTs how to identify and treat toxicology emergencies.
  • ECG interpretation - This course will teach medical practitioners how to interpret the ECG.
  • EMS Pharmacology - This course will teach EMTs more about the medications they use to allow for maximal use.
  • Airway Management - This course will teach EMTs how to manage the airway to the best of their ability in the prehospital setting.
