A Senate Resolution to Establish the SJC

BE IT ENACTED BY THE STATE OF FIRESTONE CONGRESS HERE ASSEMBLED THAT:

SECTION 1. A Senate Judiciary Committee shall be established.

SECTION 2A. The Senate Judiciary Committee shall be tasked with having hearings for all judicial nominees prior to the nominee’s advancement to the Senate, during which time, said nominee shall be placed on hold until a hearing has been given to the nominee. The Senate Committee on the Judiciary shall have five (5) senators appointed to the committee by the Lt. Governor, one (1) of them to be elected to become the chairperson of the committee by the other members of the committee.

SECTION 2B. Senators can resign from their committee assignment on the SJC. In the event a senator resigns, a new one shall be appointed by the Lt. Governor.

SECTION 2C. Senators can be removed from their committee assignment on the SJC through a Senate resolution. Said Senate resolution must pass with a simple majority (½). In the event a senator is removed, a new one shall be appointed by the Lt. Governor.

SECTION 3. The Lt. Governor shall appoint members to the committee at the beginning of the senatorial term, if a member resigns from the committee, or if a member is removed from the committee.

SECTION 4. Upon passage, this resolution shall go into effect immediately.

SECTION 5. All laws in conflict with this legislation and hereby declared null and void.
