A Joint Resolution to Establish the Congressional Internship Program

JOINT RESOLUTION

To establish the Congressional Internship program.


Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Firestone in Congress assembled,

§ 1. ENACTMENT.

 This Joint Resolution shall go into effect after completion of the Constitutionally required processes.

§ 2. SEVERABILITY.

 Should any part of this Joint Resolution be struck down and/or declared unenforceable, then that part shall be severed with the rest remaining in full force and effect unless all is struck down and/or declared unenforceable.

§ 3. ESTABLISHING THE CONGRESSIONAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM.

 There is established a Senate Internship Program and a House of Representatives Internship Program.

§ 4. PROGRAM MANAGEMENT.

 (a) The Presiding Officers of each chamber shall be responsible for directing the operation and management of that chamber’s Internship Program, and must coordinate such with the Congressmen participating in the program.

 (b) There shall be one Intern per Representative or Senator, nominated by them, subject to the approval of the responsible Presiding Officers. Interns must maintain a decent standard and be active.

 (c) Interns shall serve for a single Congress, but may be reappointed. Interns may be dismissed by the responsible Presiding Officers for misconduct or inactivity.

 (d) It is an essential purpose of this program that Interns be given an opportunity to experience the legislative process and gain a proper education in relation to the legislative process. The Presiding Officers and participating Congressmen responsible shall ensure this purpose is fulfilled.

§ 5. DUTIES OF INTERNS,

 (a) Interns shall assist their assigned Senator or Representative in the normal performance of their legislative duties.

 (b) Interns shall assist the entire chamber when necessary, as the Presiding Officer responsible directs.

 (c) Interns shall not be used in campaign or personal matters.
