A Charter Amendment to Establish Bars Through an Impeachment or Expulsion
Preamble
An Amendment to be able to add a clause to Bar persons after an impeachment or expulsion for a certain period of time.Be it enacted by the City of Redwood City Council that:
Section 1
The Redwood City Charter (“the City Charter”) shall be defined here.
Section 2
Article IV, Section 12 of the City Charter currently states the following:
“The Mayor, Deputy Mayor and City Council shall have the ability to bar individuals from holding certain offices within the government of the City of Redwood. A bar shall be a restriction on holding any office within the government of the City of Redwood, such as: Mayor, Deputy Mayor, City Alderperson, Redwood City Attorney, et cetera. A bar shall be proposed and passed in the same way as an Ordinance. A bar can be nullified with a super-majority vote of the City Council. The City Council shall not be allowed to bar any individual during an election period or any individual that is holding a position within the government of the
City of Redwood at that time.”
Article IV, Section 12 of the City Charter shall be amended to state the following:

A bar shall be a restriction on holding any office within the government of the City of Redwood, such as: Mayor, Deputy Mayor, City Alderperson, Redwood City Attorney, et cetera. A bar shall be proposed and passed in the same way as an Ordinance, or a bar may also be added as a clause within an impeachment or expulsion. A bar can be nullified with a super-majority vote of the City Council. The City Council shall not be allowed to bar any individual during an election period or any individual that is holding a position within the government of the City of Redwood at that time. A bar for impeachment or expulsion shall be limited to 14 days for an impeachment, and 30 days for an expulsion.”
